I have a 4.6 liter engine. 98,000 miles. The alternator or air conditioner compressor, or power steering pump or belt tension has never been changed.. I hear a grinding noise near front of engine.. Used a plastic pipe to try to find the noise. Can
could be the bearings in the tensioner have gone bad, my buddy's FORD expedition had a problem with the compressor's pully (Licoln/Ford partner conpanies).
If your steering is tough, it could be the pump, but metal shavings would be contained
