Ignition on 98 Peugeot Partner wont turn.?

The key for my 1998 Peugeot Partner recently snapped off from the key body.I put the blade in the ignition & turned it, only for a loud beep to come on (I presume is immobiliser)
I got a new key with chip from a Peugeot dealer, but it wont

The transponder for the immobilser is in the key body.
If you still have the old parts use the key bit to turn the ignition again but hold the body part as close to the barrel at the same time.
